Hello Sunshine Card Tutorial - Lori Whitlock July Blog Hop

Hey friends! Today is Lori Whitlock's July Blog Hop and my blog is the first stop on the hop. But be sure to visit Lori's site because she has a sale, a giveaway and an awesome freebie for you!

For my project today, I found a cutting file for one of Lori's adorable cards called Sunshine Get Well (link below). I loved this card so much but I wanted to change the sentiment from Get Well to Hello Sunshine and turn that cloud's frown upside down!

To do this: 1. Highlight the cloud shape, right click > Release compound path. 

2. Right click > Ungroup 

3. Highlight smile, right click > Flip Vertically 

4. Highlight the entire cloud, right click > Make compound path. 

For this card, I used white cardstock for the base. Then I added the cute 6x6 cloud paper called Barnyard from Echo Park’s Fun on the Farm collection (designed by Lori Whitlock).  

The sunshine (and it's pink cheeks!) were made of Doodlebug's 6x6 gingham and linen petite prints. And for the rainbow, I used Doodlebug's 6x6 inch dot and stripe petite prints.

The adorable yellow “Sunshine” paper in the background is from the Bella Blvd, You are my Sunshine collection. 

I love this card. I hope it inspires you to play with cutting files and if needed ... tweak them a bit to fit your needs.

12x12 Sunshine & Swimming Pool Layout

Happy National Swimming Pool Day! Yep, there is actually a day that celebrates the swimming pool and all of it's fun paraphernalia like swimsuits and pool toys. The timing is perfect because it's hot as Hades this summer and I'm sure everyone is spending time enjoying the pool. So, here's an idea for a 12x12 layout for your vacation photos or fun poolside memories.

I designed this with 3 different Bella Blvd's collections. I started by layering pretty papers from the You Are My Sunshine collection - Feeling Sunny (blue clouds), Happy Thoughts (pink hearts), Bee Youtiful (beehive), My Only Sunshine (rainbow stripes), and plain white. Then I added 4 squares in the center that were the reverse sides of some of those prints.

I found some word bubbles in Doodlebug's Sweet Summer Chit Chat that I thought were perfect so I added those up in the top corner.

Next, I added the adorable Bella-pops Blossoms stickers from the Chloe collection. I love all the details in them and the dimension they add to the page. I found the 2 little wave die cuts in Bella Blvd's Tiny Tots 2 ephemera. 

To finish off the page, I added the "Sunshine" die cut from Doodlebug's Fun in the Sun Odds and Ends. Since this is an older collection, you could always use yellow alpha stickers.

There are lots of stickers and twine to embellish your album, and everything is pre-cut ... super easy!  I love those little dog bowls full of bones and treats!

The little pup above just cracks me up, peering from under the folded page.  His ears are all perked up and he's ready to see your photos!

The card above folds out so that three photos fit underneath.  I can just see some pics of mischievous puppy antics on these photo mats! But the cat did it! LOL!

12x12 Happy Place Layout Using Colorful Scraps

Hello Doodlebug friends!  I have a super easy layout to share with you today.  I was cleaning up my project table this week and noticed all of the tiny pieces of My Happy Place paper laying in piles.  I was going to throw them away because the pieces were so small, but then I had an idea for a 12x12 page!

I started my layout with the Hello Sunshine plaid paper and layered the Mint to Be pattern and white card stock on top.  Then I literally just started picking up leftover pieces and placing them on top of the white base.  It was fun ... almost like arranging a puzzle!      

I printed my journaling on white card stock and used a 2.25" circle punch to cut it out.  I layered that on top of a green gingham circle from the bits and pieces, and used foam tape to pop up a few clouds and that cute sun.  A few little enamel hearts added some shine and the page was done!

So dig out your stash of My Happy Place paper and have fun using your scraps!  Happy crafting everyone!

Happy Place Card Kit Instructions

I designed this kit with Doodlebug's adorable My Happy Place Collection. Not only are these cards super fun to make, but they're also a quick project. You can create one or two as needed, or ... make all 8 of them at once and have them on hand at a moment's notice.

The kit includes 8 white card bases, pre-cut pattern paper, and lots of wonderful embellishments. There are even two Doodle-pops ... like the adorable pink house above!

So many pretty flowers on this thank you card and the colors are just gorgeous!

The birthday card may be my favorite. I added the Shaker-pops called Loads of Fun. The name is so clever and it's filled with cute little bubble beads that bounce around with socks!

This welcome card has such a fun little print on it that's filled with items from home. What a great card for a new neighbor. Just imagine how thoughtful they'll think you are when they find out you made it. No new neighbors? Set it out for a visitor in your guest room and they will think you are quite the host!

I designed this album with the beautiful Simple Stories Vintage Seas Collection and a 6x8 inch binder in navy. The papers and embellishments have a rich, classic maritime feel with stripes, anchors, seashells, lighthouses, coral, maps, whales, sailboats, compasses, and more.

The red, white, and blue color scheme works beautifully for July 4th and the beach. Sunshine, sand castles, swimming, seashells, and fireworks ... sounds like a great day with family and friends!
