Lighthouse Shaped Mini Album with Doodlebug

Hi sweet friends! It's time for another Doodlebug Design Team Project and today, I have a fun little lighthouse shaped mini album for you. Its coastal theme is great for saving summer photos of the beach, a boardwalk, a day of boating, or a lighthouse with an amazing view. Take a look ...

Isn't this cute? I used a Doodlebug cutting file called Lighthouse 2 and sized the shape to 3.25" x 10". I cut the front and back covers out of white acrylic but you could make these out of white cardstock instead. I love the cupola at the top, the catwalk, and the "rope" railing at the bottom. Great details!

I decorated the album with the adorable Seaside Summer Collection. I chose the blue 12x12 Surf's Up print for the main tower section, then filled in the smaller spaces with a few colorful prints from the 6x6 paper pad. 

To make the lantern sparkle, I added a few mini jewels. And the pretty scalloped flower border and the rainbow striped heart are stickers from the This & That sheet. 

The icons stickers were the perfect size for this mini album so, I added the cute little seagull to the railing. The word bubble is from the Chit Chat.

 

On the inside of the front cover, I added the pink beach house icon sticker, a 2x3 card from the 6x6 paper pad, and a few more Chit Chat pieces. Next, I cut 6 pages out of white cardstock and covered each one in 12x12 pattern papers.

I made photo mats for each page using the smaller 6x6 prints. And above, I included the adorable summer memories journaling card. It's also from the 6x6 paper pad.

Wouldn't these pages be great filled with pictures of a summer vacation, family and friends, the beach, swimming, snorkeling, hunting for seashells, and building sand castles?

Or ... what about a boating trip, a day of fishing, renting wave runners, or exploring a boardwalk? It all sounds so fun! And speaking of fun, how cute is this little blue whale? He's a puffy icon sticker and I just love him.

Have you visited a lighthouse on your travels? The stairs are exhausting but the view is amazing! Once you're at the top, catch your breath and take some pictures. You'll be so glad you did. 

Here, I used the 2x2 cards from the 6x6 paper pad to create 2 small flippies. These are so cute and super practical. Now I can fit 4 photos on this page instead of just 2!

On the page above, I added 3 round die cut pieces from the Chit Chat to use as photo mats. (The white circles represent your pictures.)

Camera Mini Album with Box - July Blog Hop with Lori Whitlock

Hello friends! Today is Lori Whitlock's July Blog Hop and my blog is the first stop on the hop. But be sure to visit Lori's site too because she has a sale and more great products for you!

For my project today, I made a Disney themed camera shaped mini album that tucks inside a suitcase box! Ha! How fun is that?! I used one of Lori's fabulous cutting files called Matchbox Magical Mini Album (link below) and it makes the cutest little keepsake.

The album is perfect for photos of a theme park vacation, cruise, or birthday party. I created it with the Echo Park, A Magical Voyage Collection designed by Lori. I also used this collection for my Cruise Mini Album & Altoid Tin, which was another really fun project.

Let's start with the matchbox style suitcase. I made the base of it out of black cardstock. The file comes with the castle shape, a carrying handle on top, and a luggage tag that I attached with twine. Then, I added patterned paper and a few brads to the handle for an extra detail.

Inside, there's a sliding "drawer" that fits in the sleeve of the box. The mini album sits perfectly in this space.

This camera shaped scrapbook is so small and so cute. I added blue and white gingham ribbons to bind the pages and they match the pattern paper in the center perfectly. Love that!

To make the album, I cut out 5 pages using my Silhouette machine but you could add more if you'd like. I used different 12x12 solid and pattern papers from the collection for these. (Links below.) 

I added 3.5"x 2.5" photo mats to each page and embellished with stickers from the 12x12 sticker sheet.

Here's a fun idea ... wouldn't this be a great way to surprise the kiddos with news of an upcoming vacation?! You could make each child one and add their name to the luggage tag. Then they could save their own photos from the trip and have a special memento from your time together!

12x12 My Sunshine 6-page Layout Kit

I designed these pages with the Bella Blvd, Just Because Collection (links below) and it's so pretty! It has great colors, fun patterns, and a general theme that allows the layouts to be used for almost anything!

 

You could add photos of the Easter holiday, Mother's Day, summer, a fun day at the park, your garden, a birthday, a bridal or baby shower, fun with family and friends, your pet, or everyday memories.

 

The kit includes a full package of ephemera and a 12x12 sticker sheet, so ... you can replicate my designs exactly or use your creative freedom to customize them for your needs. 

There are bicycles, singing birds, musical notes, a flower cart, a hedgehog (with a cute flower crown!!), bunny rabbits, a mailbox, hearts, seed packets, and more!

This "my sunshine" page would be a great spot for photos of someone that lights up your life, like ... your children, grandchildren, best friend, mom, daughter, or your sister.

I spelled out this title using stickers from the 12x12 sticker sheet (included in the kit). You'll get the entire alphabet, so again ... you could change the title to anything if you'd like. Add someone's name, the date, a saying that's meaningful to you, or even a bible verse. 

 

These 6 pages have space for 23 photos and a pocket with journaling cards so you can document details.

Do you enjoy visiting a botanical garden, a butterfly farm, or a Flower and Garden Festival? Epcot at Walt Disney World in Florida has a gorgeous one every year. These layouts would be great for those photos!

July 4th USA Mini Album Tutorial with Lori Whitlock

Happy Independence Day! I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful July 4th weekend. Today, I'm sharing my latest Lori Whitlock Design Team Project. It's a cute new USA Acrylic Mini Album that I made using one of Lori's awesome cutting files. This fun project is filled with the spirit of freedom and patriotism, and ... it's a great place to save your holiday memories!

This little scrapbook looks great sitting out as holiday decor. Be sure to check out my Acrylic Display Stand seen in the photo above. They're perfect for showing off your seasonal, shaped, and acrylic mini albums.

Now ... let's take a quick look through the album, then I'll explain exactly how I made it's cute cover so you can create one too!

I chose Lori's cutting file called USA Accordion Fold Card (link below) for the cover's design. I cut it out of white acrylic, but you could easily use white cardstock instead.

I decorated the album with the Echo Park, Stars and Stripes Forever Collection also designed by Lori. It's fabulous! There are American flags, fireworks, stars, flowers, pinwheels, and balloons. Product links below.

Inside, the album has 12 scrapbook pages (6 double-sided) that include 1 pocket, 2 fold-out pages, and 3 fun interactive flippies.

I used a mix of 12x12 and 6x6 pattern papers throughout the pages.

I added a pocket and some fun die cut pieces from the Ephemera and Frames & Tags.

I love this print with the little red, white, and blue flowers. It's such a cute pattern for the holiday!

I also added some stickers from the 12x12 Elements sheet. There are lots of great sayings, Uncle Sam's hat (above), a red pick-up truck, a jar of flowers, cupcakes, and a scallop border. 

Isn't this Stars and Stripes Forever Collection that Lori created great?! I just love it. 

Below is the cutting file I used to create the album's cover. You can find the file here in Lori's shop or here in the Silhouette Online Store.

And, here's how I made it ...

Step 1:  Be sure to group both sets of USA letters together before resizing so that the insets will fit into the background after resizing. Once resized, ungroup the 2 sets of USA letters.  Then you will need to delete the tiny score lines on the welded USA.  To do this, right click and hit Release Compound Path (depending on your software you may need to hit make compound path first).  Once you have the tiny score lines highlighted, delete them.  Highlight the remaining pieces, right click and hit make compound path to set your welded USA cover correctly.

Step 2: Select both sets of letters, right click, and group them together again.

Step 3: Create a back cover for your album by selecting a rectangle under drawing tools.  I sized my back cover to 8” x 5”. Once I had my back cover, I placed it behind my group of USA letters.

Step 4:  Since I wanted my welded USA cover to be the same height as my back cover, I highlighted both sets and pulled the bottom curser down to stretch the cover to 5” high. 

Step 5: Once I had my front and back covers the same size, I ungrouped the USA sets and cut everything out.  Don’t forget to punch binding holes and make as many pages (sized like the back cover) as you want!
